Cannabis can be easily cloned. However, for the new growers, it may be a daunting task. It is often difficult for new cultivators to understand the complete process of cloning. Many people consider it one of the best methods to grow marijuana at home. But it is essential to know that it is not an easy process. There are many things that you should know about in order to succeed. There are three predominant methods when it comes to rooting mediums. In today’s article, we will be discussing the three mediums in detail.
The right choice of a rooting medium will increase and improve the growth of your cannabis clone plants.
- Using Rockwool cubes
Rockwool is one of the most widely used rooting medium. It is quite easy to use and set up. It is a beneficial tool for smaller growers as well as for those who want to grow marijuana at home. When used correctly, Rockwool is the best medium to increase your yield. Rockwool cubes are designed in such a way that it provides excellent moisture-holding capacity and proper aeration of the root zone.
It provides an excellent environment for cloning because of these qualities. You can easily find these cubes online and offline. After putting the cubes in rockwools, monitor the humidity levels every day. Earlier, it was difficult to dispose of rockwool cubes. However, with the developments in technology, there are cubes these days, which are even biodegradable.
Rockwool cubes have higher pH levels. Therefore, you should soak the cubes in neutral water and keep it overnight or for several hours. Dip the cutting into rooting hormone for 20-30 seconds. Don’t dip the whole cutting. Just make sure you dip the bottom portion of the cutting into the rooting hormone.
- Potting soil method
Potting soil method or transporting your clone is another common rooting medium used. When cloning in soil, it is advisable to use a good rooting hormone or a good cloning product.
Cloning with soil is a traditional yet efficient method for cloning. For this method, you don’t have to soak soil overnight. You just have to get it to saturate it enough. All you have to do is take a cutting. Dip it in the rooting hormone for about 20-30 seconds. After dipping it into the rooting hormone, place it into the potting soil.
Don’t choose a soil with an abundance of nutrients. Never overwater or underwater when cloning with the soil method.
- Water cloning technique
Water cloning technique is one of the easiest cloning techniques. You don’t need any unique tool or any particular rooting hormone for this. All you need is water, and you can start cloning.
In this technique, you have to drop your cutting in water. Let it be in the water until new roots begin to develop. Fill the cup with about 3/4th of tap water or distilled water. Make sure that the pH level of water is between 5.5 to 6.0. Wrap the cup with plastic and make a hole in the wrap or plastic. The hole size should be smaller than the cutting size.
After this, put the cutting of the mother plant in the pot. Place the pot under low grow lights.
The above are the rooting techniques you can use at home. Other than this, there is one more technique – cloning machine technique. You need to have a cloning machine in this case. Cloning machine is an easy and efficient method for those who find the other ways difficult. Experiment with the techniques and see what method works best for you.
